The major Styles |
4.) Chiengsaen or Northern
Thai Style ( 11th - 18th Century AD )
Emerging
in the North of Thailand, the North Thai Style spanned many centuries
Its two major groups are characterised by round faces, wide shoulders,
and
narrow waists. The earliest group, similar to Pala art of India,
has a halo formed
like a lotus bud and a robust body and chest aptly decribed as "Lion
like".
The later group, sometimes called the
Chiangmai styles, shows the unmistakable
influence of Sukothai with a flame-like halo crowned Buddha images,
folk Buddha
images, images from South China, and those reflecting Burmese influence. |
